No Field Days in 2009

The Swan Hill Field Days Association has announced there will be no 2009 Swan Hill-Murray Downs Field Days, following a vote taken at their Annual General Meeting last week to put the Field Days on hold for 12 months.

According to Chairman, Reg Packer, the Committee of Management felt that with the current tough economic conditions and the effect of these on the Field Days both in terms of exhibitor attendance and visitor numbers, the best course of action would be to go into recess for 12 months and then review the situation and make a decision regarding the future of the event.

“The Committee has worked tirelessly over the last 20 years to coordinate the Field Days for the benefit of Swan Hill agribusinesses and local farmers, and it was felt that in recent times our role had diminished somewhat.”

“Having successfully celebrated 20 years of the Field Days this year, the Committee felt the timing was right to take a break and see what options presented themselves regarding the future of the event,” he said.

Mr Packer would like to encourage any individuals or organisations who have an idea they would like to put forward regarding the future of the Field Days to contact either himself on 5032 9255 or the Field Days Administration Officer, Dianne Pumpa on 5032 3033.

“The Field Days have been a huge initiative and have been made possible each year by the work of a small, but dedicated, Organising Committee and I would like to thank them for their efforts over the years.

“We would also like to thank Swan Hill Rural City Council for their strong support every year since the event began in 1988, and also the Murray Downs Golf and Country Club where the Field Days have taken place in recent years, as well as all of the businesses and visitors that have supported us over the last 20 years,” he said.

Anyone with queries about the Swan Hill-Murray Downs Field Days can contact Administration Officer, Dianne Pumpa on (03) 5032 3033.
